Applying to Universities in Austria

It is estimated that every year, IB Diploma Programme students from around the world will submit their Diploma transcripts for application to more than 3,300 different higher education institutions, in 90 different countries. Austria is one of these countries!

Austria offers a wide variety of university opportunities in many different subject fields. This includes the Arts, with Music conservatories, the Sciences, Medical universities, and everything in between. In Austria, university admission requirements, application procedures, and enrollment can differ greatly between individual institutions. All Austrian universities accept the IB Diploma, and many private universities also accept IB course certificates or the IB Career-related Programme certificate.

Admission to public or private universities in Austria

There are also some differences between Public and Private universities or institutions in Austria.  One major difference is in the language of instruction. Public universities tend to have the majority of courses in German with very few courses in English. A German language examination is usually a requirement for these courses. The application process for these courses can also be in German and students must be able to apply and navigate through the application process in German. The standard German level for acceptance is C1, but with some hard work, many of our non-native German-speaking students can achieve this. For all Music and Arts schools, a portfolio, audition, or entrance examination is necessary for admittance. This is usually in combination with a German examination.

Our Careers Counselor is experienced and available to all our students in support each step of the way throughout their applications.
