The IB Education at AMADEUS Vienna

A student’s life is a work of art in real-time. From theatre and visual arts to dance and music performance, Music and the Arts provide students with the tools necessary for personal expression, harnessing their emotions and stirring their passion.

Find out everything you need to know about the IB Programmes at AMADEUS Vienna!

IB Continuum School

The International Baccalaureate Continuum is an educational pathway spanning the Primary Years Programme, the Middle Years Programme, and the Diploma Programme. These programmes support students to develop the traits which will ensure their future success.

The IB continuum provides the perfect preparation for the transition at key developmental milestones of each students’ journey as they progress from Early Years onwards to University; as open-minded, caring, balanced, knowledgeable, and principled, thinkers, inquirers and communicators; in the AMADEUS spirit of Distinction.

IB Programmes: core curriculum

As part of the IB Programme’s required core curriculum, students gain a breadth of appreciation for Music and the Arts. They do so by developing a quality foundation of skills through an exploratory learning approach. All students are exposed to music, singing and dancing as part of participation in whole school community events.

The core curriculum is supplemented with a dynamic co-curricular enrichment programme that further integrates the arts by emphasising process, play and real-life project-based learning modules where students and teacher are both learner and creator. These include elements of photojournalism, editorial design, composing with technology, acting, singing and dancing in development of a musical theatre performance.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of additional school activities and/or enrol in individual lessons at the AMADEUS Music and Arts Academy (AMAA). These include choir, ensembles, orchestra, instrument, voice, dance styles, drawing, painting, instrumental lessons etc.

The four International Baccalaureate Programmes

The International Baccalaureate features four educational programmes for students throughout all grades:

IB Primary Years Programme

The IB Primary Years Programme, grades 1-5, emphasises multilingualism and independent learning. Find out more!

IB Middle Years Programme

The IB Middle Years Programme, grades 6-10, emphasises experimental learning, critical thinking, international-mindedness, and other important areas. Find out more!

IB Diploma Programme

The IB Diploma Programme, grades 11-12, is a challenging pre-university qualification. It is recognised by universities in more than 140 countries.

IB Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme is a framework of international education that incorporates the values of the IB into a unique programme addressing the needs of students engaged in career-related education (www.ibo.org, 2021).

At AMADEUS Vienna, the IB Career-related Programme focuses specifically on music, providing a stepping stone into university music studies or even a professional music career. Vienna is now a candidate school for offering this programme for grades 10-12. Find out more!

AMADEUS Music and Arts Academy (AMAA)

Students who demonstrate proficiency in an area of their interest have the opportunity to apply to the AMADEUS Music and Arts Academy (AMAA). The academy provides an elective path for students who want to develop their talents in a professional and inspiring environment alongside their studies.
