AMADEUS Alumni Update from Savannah College of Art and Design
At AMADEUS Vienna we believe it is important to stay in contact with our Alumni and follow their educational and career paths as they develop. This week, we share an update on one of our students who graduated in 2020:
After Galina graduated from AMADEUS in 2020, she applied to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and was happily accepted into their Bachelor of Arts program majoring in Visual Effects.
SCAD is a private nonprofit art school that has more degree programs and specializations than any other art and design university in the US. It was first founded in 1978 to provide a specialized art college for students around the United States and abroad. The school and its curriculum were developed to not only provide students with an excellent arts education, but also effective career preparation. Currently, they have approximately 11.363 undergraduate enrollment spread over three different campuses including Lacoste, France.
University in the time of COVID
Galina graduated in the midst of a global pandemic. She originally applied to go to the Hong Kong campus, but due to COVID, she decided to continue on with her studies at the American campus in Savanah, Georgia. Although it has been difficult learning online and getting settled in a new campus in the midst of a pandemic, Galina is happy with her university choice and learning new things every day.
During her first semester, Galina took foundation courses in basic drawing and design that really boosted her professional portfolio. She also had a history of Visual Effects to lay the foundation for her major. Galina has been doing amazingly well and even made the dean’s list of honors this past winter semester.
IB Diploma Programme advantages at university
Galina studied English A in her Diploma Programme (DP) at AMADEUS Vienna and because of her success in the subject she did not have to take any additional English classes. The DP often covers first year credits at many north American universities and saves students repeating courses they have already completed. This meant that Galina was able to start studying second year courses in her first year! One of the most meaningful skills that Galina took from the IB include:
“The IB skills that I learned at AMADEUS really come in handy in a lot of my classes – from essay writing skills & research/ideation to knowing how to create a proper bibliography.”
We wish Galina all the best in her studies and look forward to seeing her work soon! We definitely miss the aqua hair!
