AMADEUS Alumni Update From the University of Vienna

At AMADEUS Vienna we believe it is important to stay in contact with our Alumni and follow their educational and career paths as they develop. This week we share an update from Vladyslav Sokur who now attends the University of Vienna after graduating from AMADEUS last year (2020).

The University of Vienna

The University of Vienna is a public university in the heart of Vienna. The history of the university dates back to Duke Rudolph IV in 1365 and it is one of the oldest universities in the German-speaking world. The University of Vienna has developed into one of the largest universities in Europe and also one of the most renowned with such alumni as Sigmund Freud, Christian Doppler, and 15 Nobel Prize Laurates. The University of Vienna has a huge range of degrees, all undergraduate degrees are currently in German, however, Master and Doctoral degrees are also conducted in English. You can find more information on their website here.

Bachelor of Science

Over the years we have had many students apply to and complete studies at Vienna University, one such example is Vladyslav. He graduated in 2020 after very successful completion of his IB Diploma. Vladyslav was an exceptionally studious student at AMADEUS and always gave his best to his studies. He completed the English A and the German B course while he also studied additional German to pass the German entrance exam at the university. Vladyslav always had an interest in science and specifically Chemistry, and so he started his Bachelor of Science in 2020 and has been studying hard ever since.

Vladyslav describes his university courses: “Most of my courses are just different branches of chemistry. They vary from theoretical to practical parts of chemistry, therefore by the end of my bachelor programme I will have a fairly wide range of knowledge.”

Time Management and open-mindedness: Huge advantages from the IB DP

Like many other of our alumni, Vladislav is sure that he has gained some useful skills during the IB Diploma Programme at AMADEUS which he can draw advantage of now:

Regarding IB I can say that the most vital for success still is time management. During two years of DP, I had a quite diverse academic programme. Hence I have realized that it is not about the content of the subject I have to learn, but rather about how I distribute time for study. This improves the perception of new information.”

Other things that proved themself useful during his study at Uni Wien are Internal Assessments and Extended Essays:

“Having a major project aside from my general subject helped me set priorities, which is a vital skill for a university student. I also would like to add open-mindedness. It is not simple to explain the extent to which this concept affects an IB student. But in my case, this concept helped me to understand how to think outside of the box. It is something that defines a successful human being. Everybody can learn something by heart, but that does not mean he/she will find an application for this knowledge.”

We wish Vladyslav all the success with his study and look forward to seeing his accomplishments.
