AV Alumni Update: Law at York University

At AMADEUS Vienna we believe it is important to stay in contact with our Alumni and follow their educational and career paths as they develop. This week we would like to give an update on one of our students who graduated in 2019:

This is Roena Balliu from our 2019 Graduating class. She is currently studying Law at York University, more specifically a BA in Social Policy and Crime and Criminal Justice.

Roena is really enjoying her degree and learning about the different perspectives of both the victim and the offender. She is very active in her course. For example, she has gone to prison and rehabilitations programmes to see the justice department from alternative sides.

She is also volunteering her time to help refugees in York and surrounding areas. Roena speaks Turkish and English fluently and we have experiences that she is a wonderful communicator. This activity has a strong link with work that she started in her Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) course during her time at AMADEUS Vienna. Additionally, she continues to help and support youth with disabilities. Roena emphasizes that the CAS programme really helped ignite her interest and passion for helping others.

Roena is studying hard and achieves very good grades in her courses, and she is thoroughly enjoying her studies. According to her, the IB Diploma Programme (DP) at AV really helped with this success, especially the essay writing skills she gained through the DP. Time Management is another invaluable skill that she learnt during the DP that helps her immensely.

Roena is a wonderful example of AV and demonstrated what it means to be a great AV ambassador around the world.
