Students and staff were put into three teams: gold, red, blue. While the runners were divided into groups: the mini mile for the early years and grade one girls/boys separated, the junior mile for grade two to five girls/boys separated, senior mile for grade six to nine girls/boys sepaparted, AV mile for tenth to twelfth graders girls/boys separated, the staff and parents mile girls/boys separated.
There were many supporters from the various houses who cheered and applauded powerfully for members of their houses who took part in the race. The supporters helped people carry on and not give up. There were also music playing to encourage and support the runners. After they ran, the AV milers were very proud of themselves because they knew that they accomplished something very challenging for them.
Grade 9 runner Malena said, “It was a bit challenging, the hill was a bit hard but I ran fast so it was fine. I really liked that at the end of the race everyone was cheering for me. I think everyone should run the mile because it’s fun and it’s a challenge, and challenges are important so we can grow and improve in all ways.”
“I feel really good, I’ve been working very, very hard so that’s why it feels so good to win. Because I really have been training every single day so it feels nice,” said Ms. Carnahan of her first place victory.
All in all, it was an incredible day where the whole community came together to have fun and support each other. Me, we, AV!
