Dear DP students and parents,
Firstly, I hope that the entire community is of good health during this uncertain time. At AV, we are continuously finding the best methods and procedures for providing an excellent online learning programme for our students.
We have adapted the timetable to accommodate 1) our students’ feedback on the online learning, 2) contemporary educational theory about succesful distance learning.
Essentially, the days are broken into subject areas whereby every day has a single focus, and the power of the whole department on-hand to support learning. Screen time is limited, and there are movement and creativity breaks, which separate our blocks of ‘deep-learning’. The homework and feedback schedule is spaced in order to allow detailed feedback from teachers and facilitate a positive learning rhythm for better retention.
Please remember that teacher support time is also scheduled; so help is never more than an e-mail or a video call away.

Graduation Project and Canceled Exams
We are in the planning stages for a culminating graduation class project for grade 12, as we want to support all of our graduating students in finishing high school in a meaningful way. More information will come regarding the project details.
As this is the first year that the IB has suspended exams, we are getting a large number of questions from parents and students, which is completely understandable. Please note that we have gathered the most frequently asked questions further down on this webpage.
Some recommended actions students can take:
- Email the universities you plan to attend, inquire about how the university is dealing with entry requirements. Please cc Ms DeVries in your email correspondence.
- Check your school email daily and accepted student portal or university website to monitor announcements from the university.
Students or parents can contact myself or Ms Pages for any further questions. Our grade 12 students have worked hard and we can see that the IB is developing a system of grading to support the class of 2020.
