The History of
AMADEUS International School Vienna

AMADEUS International School Vienna is an institution that, for ten years, has dedicated all its experience and knowledge to training students with the best academic excellence, developing their knowledge and skills through creativity, activity, and service.

Our commitment to music and the arts allows our students to explore new cultures and human experiences through creativity. Feeling free to express their knowledge, feelings and opinions in a unique way where no matter what culture, tradition or part of the world they come from, they can communicate in a unique universal language.

2012
Founding of AMADEUS International School Vienna
Beginning of our great trajectory as a school. Our first generation of students, less than 30 in number, created their memories and took their first steps as ‘Amadeans’. The School began with just one school building; the Ignaz Semmelweis House.

In this year, AMADEUS also joined the prestigious “All-Steinway School” classification. The All Steinway enables our students access to the finest instruments and prepares them in the best way for a life with music at all levels.

IB DP Accreditation & Opening Bühler House
AMADEUS achieved its first accreditation with the esteemed International Baccalaureate (IB) Organisation to offer the IB Diploma Programme. This high school leaving certificate enables our graduates to study in the best universities worldwide.

With more than a hundred students in our scholar year, AMADEUS inaugurated a new building: “The Bühler House”, where with the most modern installations and the best teaching materials, we offer our students a modern stimulating and innovating environment to support them to reach the highest potential with new classrooms and recreational spaces.

2016
Accreditations for PYP/MYP & First Graduation Class
AMADEUS achieved the second and third accreditations for the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) to support the transition from Primary to Secondary. This granted us the status of ‘full continuum school’. Additionally AMADEUS also achieved the State Recognition as a Private School under Public law.

In this year AMADEUS also proudly graduated the very first cohort of students. These students were expertly prepared to enter their universities of choice and were the first of many generations to come who will carry AMADEUS International School Vienna as their “alma mater”.
2018
Early Years officially starts
Our first generation of Early Years began. AMADEUS opened its doors for younger students, 3 years old to 6 years old, with a Reggio Emilia inspired kindergarten.

However, AMADEUS came part of Association of Central European Schools, the Association represents and promotes the educational and public interests of IB member schools and their communities, working together to support learning.

IB CP Accreditation, Opening Pfeiffer House & AMADEUS Festival Vienna
AMADEUS achieved a fourth and fifth accreditation for the IB Career Related Programme for specialist musicians, and Pearson BTEC International Diploma in Music. With this we also have the honour of being the first school in Austria to offer the IBCP and first school in Europe to offer the BTEC International Diploma in Music.

AMADEUS started the year with more than 350 students and opened a newly renovated building to contact our Boarding Programme and School restaurant kitchen and dining halls. Our building, the Ida Pfeiffer House, completes our network of spaces for our students and also expands the campus.

With the purpose to help new young talents, AMADEUS started with a cultural platform called “AMADEUS Festival Vienna” where every year in addition to great guest artists like “Janoska Ensemble” or “Angelika Kirchschlager” opens the stage to these emerging artists who together create a unique event at the beginning of every summer. The Festival is becoming increasingly popular, with a third edition confirmed for 2023.

ISR Creativity & Innovation Award / Top 100 Private Schools in the World
In this year AMADEUS was also recognized with a number of international awards. We were shortlisted for the ISR Creativity & Innovation Award, and honoured to appear in the prestigious SPEARS-CARFAX “Top 100 Private Schools in the World” list. Furthermore, this year we will start the school year 2022-2023 with more than 450 students belonging to more than 50 different nationalities.
